I began this book unable to immerse myself in the stories. I found them to be too brief for me to care, and I did not see the meanings in the stories. But that did change towards the end,
as the stories became interconnected.
I grew appreciative of the syntax and the messages attempting to be conveyed. I think this is a great collection that captures the culture it sets out to do.

This is a collection of short stories that brought the Central Valley of California alive. Focusing on farm workers, immigrants  and their struggles gave me a perspective we often hear about but more often then not  choose to ignore. More than once I finished a story and thought about the characters. What happened to them? Were they ok?
