Robert Ludlum cannot write female characters for shit.

And his dialogue's not much better.

Meh. Listened to the unabridged book on a trip to NY and back as the story appealed to the majority of the voters in the car. Repetitive, formulaic, but a reasonable diversion for a vacation car ride.

Too much politics. Too drawn out…movie was better

unneccessary, unhealthy and unwanted romance: 4.5/5

Exhausting.

Fun from the first page! Jumping right into book 2.
mysterious tense medium-paced

Well, the first part was great. Mysterious and interesting. Fully leans into the amnesiac part.
Then, he met Marie. To me, it went all downhill from it.

This book just served to make me more impressed with the excellence of the movie. Sadly, I never really connected with the central characters in this, the original version.

I am a big fan of the movie version and given the complexity of the plot have wondered how the book version of this would be. I also remember someone mentioning in an online article of how in-depth and complicated the book version is and this piqued my interest.
Having said that, my first impression is that of disappointment. I was expecting a Frederick Forsyth or Dan Brown level of plotting, with dense information. As far as genre books go, The Bourne Identity is by no means a bad book. It is a quick, racy read with enough suspense and thrills.
An amnesiac person lands up in an Mediterranean island and after being looked after by a drunk doctor lands at Zurich to view the contents of a Swiss bank locker whose number is surgically impacted to his body. This sets in motion a series of events that involves the internationally notorious assassin Carlos and the American secretive 'Treadstone' group within CIA plotting to kill Bourne, while he himself is trying to remember his past based on memory flashes he experiences every now and then. To this mix is thrown a woman, who he initially uses for his protection and then becomes his love interest. How Bourne (is that his real name ? - you will find out in the book) outwits them, while only retaining parts of his memory forms the rest of this book.
In short, a decent read.
