The Bourne Identity
I originally picked this book up a couple of years ago after watching the original Bourne Trilogy. When I read it originally, I went into it not realizing that it was nothing like the films. I did like it however, despite the differences from the film and to be blunt, mediocre writing. There’s a lot of action and running around and so much repetition, but it’s a good read if you want something mindless and entertaining. I rated this 3 ½ stars.

Such a great book...really enjoyed the beginning when he was trying to remember who he is and the different ways the author tries to identify him.
I always enjoy a good story where the main characters are being pushed to their absolute limits and a little bit beyond....this was no exception!
Lots of really good action and I’m really looking forward to starting book 2.

This book is much different than the movie. The story arc is very different. The only similarities are the names and places.
Political commentary can be found throughout the story if you pay attention to the larger connections found in the characters home countries. I may read it again with that in mind to get more depth from the book next time.
If you are looking for a spy thriller without the extra tours book is still very much for you. It is actions picked without the unrealistic expectations that the hero bounced back from everything quickly.
I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Although I did enjoy the movie form I'd have to say the book was better. Brian listened to these a few years ago and had warned me that they were very different from the movies. In this case they are different enough that you can't even really compare them, thankfully. I understand the movies needing to take a different route to incorporate modern technology and subsequently action sequences. The reason the book was better is mainly because the background story is better thought out and explained.
There is some language but to be honest it was less than I would have expected from a book in this genre that was published circa. 1980. Especially since there are flashbacks to the Vietnam war and it seems that authors/script writers find it unconvincing to leave expletives out of such scenes.
I was surprised to like the character of Marie better in the book as well. She had more to contribute. However, I liked the relationship between her and Bourne less. I tend not to like the way relationships are written by men in this genre.
Sum up: this book was pretty much what I was expecting plus the happy surprise of not feeling gypped when it came to explanations as the movie left me.

Exciting start but eventually became very detailed and I felt was a distraction to the main story. The book makes me want to watch the movie again since it's been a while that I saw the first Bourne.

I thought I would thoroughly enjoy these books because I loved the movies so much.

The disappointment was that the books are set in a time decades ago. And for technology, that is lifetimes. It just wasn't as fast paced enough for me, being a techno-dweeb, to keep me that enthralled. It was interesting enough for me to keep reading the series though.

I really liked this book: an easy but compelling read. Thankfully, much better than the movie. Unfortunately, the others in the series didn't live up to the same standards.
