I'm not a fan of winter, but I do like spooky stuff and this book delivers. We're getting into the cold weather here and I am now burning to mull some wine and open my doors to mummers with an animal head on a stick! There is so much information here about all the various Christmas traditions and where they might have come from. Lots of angry letters from religious leaders, plus some really nice nature scenes.
This is a very informative book on the history of the dark sides of Christmas. All the lore and myths throughout the years from many different cultures.

For anyone who enjoys the spooky folklore that comes with Christmas traditions.
Highly recommend the atmospheric audiobook.

Mixed feelings. It was a delightful review of some of darker roots of today’s Christmas traditions - love that kind of thing. It also really heavily centered on Christianity and spent a lot of flowery language describing the author being a straight up tourist at things like Krampus runs. I’d have liked more history and more citations but overall was a fun read.
A fun read for the holidays if you enjoy the darker side of Christmas history. I enjoyed learning about these traditions, but did find the book incredibly repetitive.
