Thank you Faith Gardner for letting me read “Pearl in Deep” in exchange for an honest review.

I was so happy to be part of an Arc Team. Not just any Arc team, but Faith Gardner’s. It’s rare these days that I get excited for a new novel and literally drop what I am doing. I am doing it now. I am ditching my current read and have no regrets doing it.

I fell in love with “Amen Maxine” and the Jolvix universe. I love this world that gives me a thriller set in a dystopian version of this world. I love that it is not too far fetched.

Pearl is working as a waitress in an upscale-ish restaurant. When her boss humiliates her in front of the whole restaurant, wealthy and charming Christopher puts a stop to this. Soon he found his way into Pearl’s Herat and life. He’s charming, rich… and works for Jolvix. See a pattern her? Are all Jolvix workers secret psychopaths?
The more Pearl starts to get away from him, the crazier it gets…

This fourth instalment feels darker. It lures you in, like Christopher lured himself into Pearl’s life. You see the allure of what he has to offer. You see the red flags but you decide not to care. I really enjoyed this a lot, from start to finish. Not a dull moment!

What I liked, in random order:
- The Jolvix Universe is set in the near future. I like that they take place I  place we (might) know. Just elevated in a dystopian way.
- The choice of names. I have a thing with names. I swear I can not read another novel with a Grace or Kim. I have nothing at all against these names, I just have read so many with these kind of names. I like the creativity here. Definitely a huge  plus for me and very much appreciated.
- Faith takes real, technical inventions and issues and spins them into an intense and real feeling tale.
- All seriousness aside, PAPA made me laugh out loud, literally. At least for a moment.
- I liked the approach to psychopathy.

What I did not like:
- … coming up pretty much empty. I just like this world a lot and I am happy with what I am presented with. I don’t tend to question fictional novel for “realness” and “reality”. And now, this is not a deeofake review. 😅
- Maybe I’d wish for some more cameos of previous characters… hope I did not miss any. I spotted one at least.
- Compared to the other novels, this felt the most real. This is not a bad thing, not at all. But the more of the jolvix-ness, the better! Maybe a bit more deepfake?!
- I am not quite sure how I feel about the ending?! 🤔

What I had to Google:
- deepfake videos are real. They are basically fake motion pictures.

- whatchamacallit: that’s a real thing, not only an impossible to pronounce word. It’s a cord as well as a candy bar

- Does Pinot Noir really go with salmon? Yes it does, I thought about white wines at first though 😅
- Even while being fluent in German, I HAD to Google the word for “feeling yourself into a work of art”! (Einfühlung) I took me a while 😅
