A fantastic look at this time period by the amazing John Okada. I loved the political and historical aspects. It was such an interesting read. The familial and social aspects added so much depth and reliability to this compelling read. This book is one of my all time favs.

An important narrative of Japanese American experiences post-World War II. On anti-Asian racism, barriers to citizenship, tensions within Asian American communities, and pulls toward ideals of white American masculinity.

“it is not an easy thing to discover that being american is a terribly incomplete thing when one’s face is not white and when one’s parents are japanese”

“i wonder if there’s a jackson street where i’m going to, that would make dying tough”
