I rated this a three but I think it might deserve a four *for what it is.* It's not innovative, in the way of these self help books it's a little repetitive. The analogies & tedious drawing of parallels to daily life gets redundant, but I listened to an audio book while doing chores or driving, so it was tolerable. If I had to slog through text I don't think I would have finished it.
But, for all that it was worth reading. I needed encouragement to continue to get better at watching my words, and this really helped. I plan on listening to the chapter on anger at least two more times. It also inspired me to spend more time in scripture, so that's definitely a win.

This author is just calling herself out 90% of this book. I hope that those who this would make a better person—find it but I read this because it was a top religion book at my library and I found it to be exactly what I thought it would be, sometimes worse

I really didn’t like this book at first. I had high hopes going into it but found that I didn’t like the author’s overly relatable, trying too hard writing style. While I still ended up skipping chapters that didn’t really apply to me and skimming the ones that did, I found that I actually did really enjoy certain chapters and found much encouragement and many great tips within them.
If you struggle with “keeping it shut” as I do, I would recommend at least skimming this book. Thanks for giving us practical principles and encouraging me that I am not alone in this battle, Karen! 3 stars.
God bless,
Kaya :)

Clearly a book I will need to refer back to often as my mouth gets me into so much trouble.

Best book on this topic that I have read. Based on scripture, the practical advice in this book is worth digging into and applying to your life.
