Really sweet and cozy read. Viv is such an endearing character to root for. I didn’t want the book to end as I read the final pages, knowing that the comfort of reading this sweet story would end.

Once again, there is not much happening.... In a good way. I was kind of confused about the timeline, but this is a prequel!!! Once again Viv is building businesses and forming the STRONGEST found family! And she discovers spicy books which is so fun. I am especially enamored with the weird lil animal familiars and LOVE the homunculus and his work. Love.
Overall, I liked this one but not as charming as book 1. I am exceptionally grateful for the epilogue and the loose ends that get tied so nearly. What a delightful world this is!

I'm not normally one for prequels — I want to know what's going to happen next, not what's happened previously — so I put off reading this for a while despite loving [b:Legends & Lattes|61242426|Legends & Lattes (Legends & Lattes, #1)|Travis Baldree|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1654581271l/61242426._SY75_.jpg|94968745]. While I didn't like it as much as that one, I did still really enjoy it. It felt familiar and cozy — with its found family, subtle romance, and shop improving elements (restorationcore?) — but still had its own unique story to tell that separated it from its predecessor. It also felt true to Viv's younger character. I look forward to reading the next in the series, [b:Brigands & Breadknives|222376572|Brigands & Breadknives (Legends & Lattes, #2)|Travis Baldree|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1738162389l/222376572._SY75_.jpg|229363270], which is a proper sequel.
