When I was halfway through this book, I was enjoying it, but thought it would sit at a 4.5, but the ending really swung it for me, with how emotional and honest it was.
This was a lovely, cosy read. Yes there's peril, but it feels all the way through that everything will be OK, and sometimes a book where we are guaranteed a happy ending is just what you need.
The reason it was going to get knocked down a little score-wise, was that I didn't feel it completely meshed with the storyline of Legends and Lattes, but in the end that didn't really matter. I look forward to reading more of Baldree's work.

This was amazing! I didn't love it as much as Legends & Lattes but I still had such a wonderful time reading it. I really enjoy Travis Baldree's writing and the worldbuilding is fantastic and feels fleshed out and lived in. The characters were lovely and it was really fun to see Viv in her youth when she's just starting as an adventurer versus with the first book showing her retiring from that life. The supporting characters were a lot of fun and I would love to see some of the characters from this meet up with Viv again in the present. The plot also was well done and really added to the story while still maintaining a cozy vibe. This was so much fun and I loved every bit of it and I hope we'll get more in this world.

I really enjoyed this prequel and getting to know Vic’s early self. I loved the Epilogue and how it tied it together with Legends and Lattes.

Cozy fantasy at its finest. Warm bread scents, quiet bookshops with stories inside stories, and a young orc discovering that community can be as rewarding as battle. Viv’s first romance is sweet and a little awkward, and the new cast is every bit as lovable as the original. A small town setting full of comfort, low stakes, high charm, and just enough adventure to keep the pages turning.
