This felt like a warm hug in a book! If you’re looking for a cosy, low stakes fantasy with a myriad of magical creatures to follow and fall in love with, this could be for you.

It’s worth knowing I read this before Legends and Lattes- this story is a prequel to that book and felt like it would be okay to read this first. I definitely would like to continue Vivs story now in legends and lattes and have heard nothing but good things about that one ☕️

Bookshops and bonedust has immaculate cosy vibes. We’re talking old dusty bookshops, sugary sweet bakeries and a tiny town with not a whole lot going on. This is very much a character based story, there’s little in the way of plot and it’s very slow. However, if you’re overwhelmed from epic fantasy books but want to stay in a magical world, this is a great little read.

I loved all the main characters in this book. At the start I worried I wasn’t going to connect with them all as they’re all different magical creatures and I struggled to picture them in my mind, but all the characters were really funny and warm and it was hard not to fall in love with them.

I’ll be continuing this series- the perfect cosy autumn read

It was an enjoyable, cosy read.

Uggghh these cozy fantasies are a PITA. This is really a slice of life story following Viv, from Legends & Lattes, with a fantasy subplot. I enjoyed it, I really did, but reading cozy fantasy sorta feels like brain fog. I’m reading all the words but not absorbing it, just kinda vibing. I loved Viv, Fern, Satchel, Potroast, and Maylee, I loved learning the origins of Gallina and Blackblood, and the last two chapters and epilogue were gutwrenching…. Nothing is wrong with this book, NOTHING, but I was also just so uninvested until the end, even with this being a prologue to a book I’ve already read and enjoyed. Idk I feel like cozy fantasy isn’t for me or maybe it’s just not the right time right now. Maybe by the time the second Legends & Lattes is released I’ll be in the mood - we’ll see! If not, I’ll fondly think of Viv’s “story past the story.”

All I wrote on Goodreads was "AWWW SO CUTE!" So here is what I remember nearly a year later.

I loved this book, not as much as Legends and Lattes but there were aspects I liked more. Mainly the challenges we go through with our main character (it's been a year I don't remember her name). Picking this up feel like revisiting your family's go to vacation spot alone as an adult. It's nostalgic with welcoming faces. I was also surprised by the fight scenes, I've read a few cozy reads and the ones that do include fights usual skip them or rush through them but these action scenes were VERY well written.
