~ thank you to the author for giving me the opportunity to read this book in advance ~

It is pretty difficult for me to review this since I'm obviously so excited about this Robin Hood reverse harem fantasy take.

My issue is the writing. The writing really didn't stick to me, so as a result, the story as well. There are quite a few lines that cringed me out. I also felt like the characters don't have that much depth into and pretty much unlikeable to me, to be honest, not that I hated them all ( I hated the father).

The plot and the premise are interesting, I was really looking forward to it. However, it felt short. I feel like it could have been more, but instead, what happened was a long drawn out of events that really didn't help in fleshing out the character, the chemistry, the romance, as well as the plot, in my opinion.

Overall, it was underwhelming. I really couldn't find something that sticks out to me. It was also pretty slow, and I forgettable at times, which was saddening in my part since I'm really looking forward to this. I feel like it could have been better.

Then again, it could have been just a me problem? But yeah, that's how I felt when reading this. Spice level

n enjoyable read…

This is a RH romance where the FMC, Robin doesn't have to choose between her four Merry Men, Little John, Will Scarlett, Alan-a-Dale and Friar Tuck. The book does end on a cliffhanger before they get their HEA and this is the first book in a planned series.
I found Daughters of Sherwood, by KC Kingmaker to be a good read overall. It took about 50 or so pages before I was truly engaged, so it does take some patience from the reader. The FMC doesn't have a good home life as her father is abusive and her mother is dying. While her dying mother is being transported to a healer in a distant place Robin stows away in a trunk being loaded on the carriages and the caravan is attacked by the Merry Men, the MMCs in Sherwood Forest. Robin, disguised as a man was captured by the Merry Men while the carriage with her father and dying mother escaped. The MMCs taunt her for being a shy, inexperienced lad prompting her to an outburst that reveals her true gender. From there the interest of the MMCs is further piqued and their varying relationships with the FMC begin to be explored.
I don't want to say much more so I do not give away any spoilers. I didn't find any of characters to be that deep as far as main characters go, but the FMC was kind, intelligent, naïve and just a little bit weird and was tolerable whereas many young FMCs are not. Her life experiences made her someone that the MMCs wanted to protect which created a couple interesting plot twists. The MMCs were each interesting in their own way, but my favorite was Will Scarlet because I thought the others were fairly dull. It was a little farther on the insta-love side than I like, but I'm not holding that against the book. The author had a good plot laid out overall and captured many of the recognizable facets of the Robinhood folktale such as the evil Sheriff of Nottingham and Maid Marian. My final thoughts on the book are that while it was a good read, there's nothing extraordinary about it that makes you want to rave and share with everyone.

An interesting twist on an old tale with all of this authors talent for fun reading makes for a superb story!

I  don't even know where to start with this review.....as a lover of the tale of Robin Hood, how could I not be drawn into this world that K.C. Kingmaker has written for us?
It took me a while to get hooked into the story but the moment Robin met the Merry Men gang, that’s where things started to get more interesting. I enjoy reading the time where Robin got a taste of adventure and freedom she longed for, exploring the unknown and found a family that will support and love her for who she is.

There were twists, betrayals, mystery, adventure and of course romance, and then a shocking twist at the end that makes you want the next book now!

Daughter of Sherwood is a page turner. K.C. was able to hold onto the legends while creating a new story-line around them. Fans of English history, of the folklore of Robin Hood, or those who simply enjoy a good read will all find something in Daughter of Sherwood which I recommend without hesitation.

K.C. has captured my imagination with her story weaving and I am greatly looking forward to seeing what is in store for the rest of the series.

I'm not normally the biggest sucker for a retelling! I love hints from the original story with little easter eggs. THAT SAID I aboso-fucking-lutely loved this book! Robin's brother's *ahem* placeholder, freaking loved the twist. The spice, perfection. The Merry Men, mwah!

I will say it took me a few chapters to actually get into the book but once I did it I couldn't read fast enough! Leaves on a semi-huge cliffhanger so be prepared for that. I will be (im)patiently waiting for book two.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

"Follow your heart, and no matter if you stray from your path, know that there is always a route back to the ones who will keep you true to yourself. Hold on to your convictions and you may become great."

This book is solidifying the fact that I believe that retellings may be my new favorite thing! I absolutely loved this book. I was SHOCKED when I got to the end and the cliffhanger, ugh! I'll be diligently waiting for book 2.

If you enjoy reading about a woman who is welcomed into a group of men, coming to terms with her strengths, and rising above her economic station in a way you wouldn't believe, this is the book for you. This book also includes the tropes of why choose, reverse harem, and found (or "forged) family. It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The character development and backstories of all characters was amazing. The plot moves fluidly through the book and never misses a beat. It's just incredible and I will definitely be reading more by K.C. Kingmaker in the very near future!

This book is not to be passed by! KC Kingmaker has taken the traditional Robin Hood and given it so many fun twists that this has to be my favorite retelling!  Tropes include age gap, why choose, reverse harem, he falls first…you get where I’m going with this. Spice levels reign high with open door scenes and Robin, well lets just day, never in her wildest dreams could she get so lucky when she meets (well, meet may not be the correct word…) the Merry Men! Of course it’s not all smooth sailing, but that just makes the story more interesting!
