Hard work for me. I think I was expecting an easy read, but the dialogue was really off-putting!

Second time attempting this book, got a little further along than last time, but it's pretty clear that it's not for me. I will now joyfully abandon it.

A re-read. The tension and atmosphere of this book never fails to get to me. Great cast of weird and wonderful characters. I particularly like Inspector Charlie Luke in this book. His reaction when the young detective is murdered hits me every time: it's so human.

The language is a bit challenging at times as it's outdated but not impossible

Občas jsem měla pocit, že čtu dílo úplně jiného autora a na Žabí bratrstvo jsem náladu neměla, chtěla jsem klasickou staromódní detektivku...

I'm not sure I can better praise this book than to say it's not over-hyped. It has, indeed, a kind of mysterious perfection to it, and its prose and philosophy alike have breathtaking moments. The book's atmosphere is unrelentingly sinister. Fog and the aftermath of war brood over London. The whole is taut and chilling, disturbingly vivid and vividly disturbing.
