This book made me feel all the emotions, which was exactly what the author set out to do. She told stories from intensive care with respect, care and candour. Seven Signs of Life was different from lots of other medical books I've read because the medical and scientific details were few and far between and the emotions were front and centre, which made this book stand out. I loved Abbey's style of writing.

Second time reading this book and loved it just as much as the first time. It's earnest, poetic read showing the emotions and experiences an intensive care doctor has to grapple with daily and providing lessons and insight into human experience, as someone who has to confront and try help people who are at their most vulnerable. She writes with great care, insight, respect for her patients, and passion for her work. This book was insightful and, as a medical student, I felt humbled to gain insight into her journey from medical school to being a doctor and to heed advice, exepriences, and lessons she shares throughout this book.
