Among the weaker of the Amelia Peabody books. I was really excited to go back in time to 1910, especially because I love the will-they-won't-they dynamic between Ramses and Nefret. But the mystery was unremarkable, and the ending .

The characters are very colorful and eccentric in some cases so this is a fun light read. The story keeps moving at a good pace although sometimes the plot is a bit contrived in places. A good romp.

It's been ages since I read a new Amelia Peabody - and that's because I know I'm nearly at the end. Now that the actual "final" book has been published I let myself read A River in the Sky because I know it'll be a while before A Painted Queen is in my price bracket. And this is obviously back in time - it fits in before Ramses and Nefret sort things out - and in fact before David and Lia get married. It sees the gang on the loose in Palestine and trying to stop an inexperienced archaelogist causing chaos in the Holy Land. It's not my favourite in the series, but it is still a lot of fun. I do love Amelia.

For a change of pace, the Emerson family head to Israel instead of Egypt, but as usual, trouble follows them in the form of dead bodies, kidnapping and strange hangers-on. While this is not my favorite Amelia Peabody story, anyone who is a fan will enjoy it.

Not my all time favorite Amelia Peabody, but a solid, entertaining story. I'm so glad she went back in time a bit to the best years of Ramses, Nefret, and David!!
