I absolutely fell in love with this story when I first read it and I just fell even more in love with it upon reread. This was my first historical fantasy book and I fell in love with the genre. I really loved Kerri Maniscalco's take on Jack the Ripper. I love how Audrey Rose didn't care what society thought of her fascination with studying science and dissecting bodies. instead of doing what society deems appropriate. I loved the growth of Audrey and Thomas' relationship and I am very excited to read more of their adventures.

while the book was very thrilling and I enjoyed it, I feel like a lot of aspects were woven in and then just forgotten about/never explained fully? idk whether that will be picked up on in following books though.

I don't think it needed the lovestory, really, but I guess it can't be avoided

I decided to reread this (since the last time I read it was 2017-2018? And I just got the last two books.
I went through and annotated and it gave me a fresh view on the book. I think I cried when I found out who the killer was before, but this time around  I'd gone through all the clues and knew who it was by the end.
It being a historical fiction adds to the definition of the main character being a women, she's often looked down upon but she almost never allows it to get in her way.

And I have to say, I think I also fell for the love interest by the end. (though, maybe not book boyfriend worthy; Yet!)

It took me around 4 days to finish the book (while I read all of Acotar in a span of a week) so I'd say it is a slower read to really grasp every ounce of information.

I also loved that she adds information at the end of the book so you really capture what information she used to inspire her and be accurate.

Stay tuned for Hunting Prince Dracula, as Ill be rereading and annotating that one as well.

Inspired by the real Jack the Ripper murders that was set in 1888, it's a mystery book with a romance subplot. It took me longer to read than I expected because I was also researching about the real-life victims of Jack the Ripper.

It was a quick read (as expected since it's YA). Both MCs are badass and not annoying. 🤭 I get the hype of Mr. Thomas Cresswell now. 😍

The good, very descriptive writing captured the ambiance and vibe perfectly. Do be warned that there might be some gory descriptions since, you know, it's about murder and corpses. If you're not used to that kind of stuff, might as well rethink if you really want to read this.
