The story was alright and had some funny parts, but seemed very derivative. Kids with missing/dead parents are so common in books (Harry Potter, Charlie Bone, Sisters Grimm, Kane Chronicles, Series of Unfortunate Events, ...) that you feel like saying, "Not again." And then there is the popular story line of the characters finding out they have powers or gifts (see first list). I understand that these common elements will probably make this a series kids will try since it reminds them of those other books - but I really hope there is a clever twist somewhere along the way and it doesn't stay so predictable.

I think I would have loved this as a kid - a little bit of mystery, a little excitement and adventure, a lot of kids living alone and sisterly problem solving - even though as an adult I find a lot of the choices perplexing (why is it written in the first person plural?). Consider it a half step up for readers of Rainbow Fairies and Magic Tree House.

I really wanted to like this book. I love the art in it and 8 sisters who have to solve a mystery sounds great. I just didn't really like it until the end and if my daughter hadn't wanted to finish it I most likely would have stopped just a few chapters in. I am debating if I should take the next one home for her.

ANNIE’S ADVENTURES is the start to a great new series by authors Lauren Baratz-Logsted and Greg Logsted, along with their daughter, Jackie. The entire family helped write the story and come up with ideas, and there’s definitely something in the story for everyone. The writing was very witty and full of jokes for all ages.

Each of the Sisters 8 has a unique personality and each one is clever and funny. I can’t wait to find out what each of their powers will turn out to be! THE SISTERS 8 would make a great read-aloud for families to share together. The first two books are out now, with more books to be released next year. Readers of all ages will enjoy the mystery mixed with humor and will be eagerly waiting to read about the next sister in line. (I know I am!)

Excerpt: "Eight girls in one story, or one series of stories. This is bad news for boys, who may suspect there are no snails or puppy dogs' tails in this book. However, there might be snails and puppy dogs' tails, but the only way you will ever know is to read further. Remember: girls can be just as grubby as boys--you just have to give them half a chance."

BOOM. THAT'S HOW IT'S DONE.

Great read! Finding a story that both myself and my 8 year old will enjoy isn't easy. She loved this story from the start and is excited to keep going with the rest of the series!

It's hard to keep characters straight (there are 8 girls and 8 cats to keep track of) but it was cute for the age group. I could see 8 year old girls getting into this series.
