This book very much surprised me! I think it was well written and had many twists that I did not see coming. Especially that

Fitchner is Sevro’s dad! I was shocked at that one a little less so that Mustang is Jackel’s twin.

I did feel like the ending was a bit rushed.

How did mustang just go and get the Jackel?? That part was underwhelming

but confirms the whole thing that Darrow is somewhat of an unreliable narrator because he is always talking in short fast sentences. I took a 1/2 star off for the writing style because it is a bit fast paced and I feel like it leaves details out. Some characters (women) are also under developed and it took a minute to get into. But overall loved this book and excited to read what’s next!

This was a fun read. It really did seem very similar to the Hunger Games and felt pretty run of the mill dystopian at first but it picked up crazy style as it went on. So many twists i felt like a pretzel. Haha. I do think the whole society situation feels a little bit too relevant… maybe this series is a blueprint for a revolution… Looking forward to reading six more of these

It has been a while since I've read a sci-fi and I'm so glad I read this because it is fantastic! It is such a unique read that had me hooked from the offset. You do need to concentrate on it but as you get further in and you understand the world and the characters it is addictive!
