I haven't read a comic book in a while, but I really enjoyed this one. The art is great, the story line enticing, there's a lot going for it. I'd definitely recommend to anyone who likes comics, especially Batman comics.
This one is pretty good and super creepy at the beginning. To me, this could have been a four or five star comic had the original story (as described in the Goodreads summary) been fleshed out and maybe even have a conclusion. But it was really three different stories, (1) the story described in the summary, (2) Catwoman and Eli Strange working together and (3) a story about Snakeskin and the Iceburg casino that happened to feature a little bit of the Penguin. (2) and (3) were fine on their own but I wanted more, so much more of (1).
What the summary doesn’t mention is that in (1) Joker has the Dollmaker cut off his face! And then Joker doesn’t really show up in the story anymore. What happened to him!? Jesus, this better be addressed in the next graphic novel.

Batman: Detective Comics, Vol. 1: Faces of Death is the first Bat installment (of Detective Comics anyway) in the New 52 reboot that DC Comics did. This caused quite a bit of controversy as the long numbered system of the previous run of Detective Comics came to an end and this series was rebooted with #1. Tony S Daniels helmed this project which features the Joker getting his face cut off by a villainous, Gotham Ripper. Batman begins to investigate and also start up a love interest with Charlotte Rivers, a television personality. The storyline is pretty standard Batman lore. The Joker appears, as does Catwoman in a back story of one of the issues. Finally, the Penguin and his ice casino comes around at the end. Enjoyable for Batman fans but not as good as Scott Snyder's run on the "Batman" flag ship line.

Simultaneously felt like there were a lot of plots opening up but that it wasn’t actually going anywhere. I really just wanna know what happened to Joker’s face, but I’m not continuing this series.
