So fluffy. there was basically no conflict in this entire novel, which is the kind of pandemic read I was looking for, and it was a fun look at more of the Wilde family. Only recommended to those who have read the rest of hte series.

A slight novella prequel to James’ Wilde series. Insta-love and cute ahistorical kids, both of which are not my favorites.

I don’t love insta love, but I did like the characters and the setting. It was a nice quick read.

I'd never heard of or read any of the other Wildes books, so it was my first time meeting all of the family. I didn't find that I was confused or that I "should have known" anything. I think that is the true trademark of a good prequel. I also didn't think this was a novella, because it was a fully fleshed out story! I think I would have been very happy to find this book if I had found the other books first. It checked all of my novella boxes, which is rare.

I thought the romance truly shined through in this book, and the characters had one very unusual thing in common for the time - they love their families! So many aristocratic families are far more interested in social climbing or businesses than they are in raising their children. That is clearly a factor that draws them closer together, aside from Hugo's love at first sight moment.

Not much plot. Love at first sight, followed by convincing the lady to marry him. A ton of filler excerpts at the end.
