Too descriptive of the gore from injuries, too many unnecessary deaths. I wanted to enjoy this book but all it did was read like a snuff film (book) where everyone dies for the sake of dying. Yes, there was a vengeful spirit, yes there was a few interesting things, but honestly, if you don't enjoy hardcore gore and horror, stay away.

It's official: I'm a fan of literary horror.

Especially when, as is the case with The Only Good Indians, there is humor woven in amongst the blood & gore, and the readers is never quite sure who's "good" versus who's "bad."

The tension throughout the story is palpable and perfect, and I loved the choices Jones made re: narration. It allows you to feel as if you're constantly slipping in & out of various characters' perspectives, which gets you into the headspace of a collective identity that our four main characters are trying so hard to embody while also keeping it at arm's length.

I'll definitely be picking up SGJ's other stories!

I finished this book in one day. Okay, two if we count that I listened through the prologue on Friday night (before sleep), but the remaining 8+ hours I finished on Saturday.

I just couldn't stop. The story is fast paced, has some beautiful imagery and atmosphere on top of the unsettling and disturbing scenes. For me it wasn't so scary as people mentioned, but the fear factor is really subjective. For me personally, it was mostly very, very sad. Just so depressing and deeply sorrowful, but it is what really resonated with me, what caught me in the net of this story and kept me interested. That also means I listened through the whole novel with a feeling of being punch in a gut but I also enjoyed it completely.

This book had me on the edge of my seat as I read it.  I went in thinking I was reading a thriller, which it was, but it also had such a creepy vibe going I was constantly looking over my shoulder.  The graphic and gory details in the descriptions of the scenes that the author depicted where so horrific.  I don't think I will look at Buck the same way again.
