Good horror but the gore got to me and I couldn’t finish.

This book is bloodier and more violent than books I typically read, but it was so good that I had to push through my squeamish nature to finish. I was incredibly creeped out by the main entity, whose revenge-filled motivations seemed both justified and yet wildly extreme and terrifying. The shift in narrator between the three (four, if you count the prologue) sections kind of threw me at first, but I honestly couldn't dream of how this book would come together without it. How else do you look at the ways that a cycle of violence and murder continue and grow without taking the time to look at it through all those affected.

This book's ending is what really gets me. I won't say anything other than I thought it was a beautiful scene, created so vividly on the page that I not only could make a perfect visual for how it would look in my mind but I also had a film score to go along with it. Few books do that for me. Also, every character just felt so real, even those who are only in the book for, like, a page or two (like Lewis' post-office buddies).
