Beautifully written & a clever premise but just too slow in the first half. Could have chopped 100+ pages from this one & still had a strong story. If I had picked this up at the right time, it could’ve been a solid 4 stars. Based on my level of enjoyment reading this, I’m going with 3.

This book had a dramatic end with an few unexpected twists.
It was one to pull on the heart strings for several reasons.

I both loved and hated this book but that’s mainly because I got attached to the characters and wanted Selina, Alice, and Lawrence to get to walk off and live long happy lives together. I wouldn’t go so far to say it’s not a happy ending as Alice gets to live a love filled life with the father who loves her and takes care of her not out of a sense of duty but rather unconditional love and he can give her the life Selina always dreamed of. This started out as a library book I kept in my car to read when waiting for pilates and around halfway through I was no longer satisfied with that and borrowed it through Libby so I could read it whenever I had spare time. It’s a bit of a slow start but the characters and the story is compelling enough to make you want to get to the part where it picks up; and it does this fairly quickly. Overall I loved it.

This book had about 5 instances of ugly cries for me. It's a beautiful exploration of love in all its forms and the lingering effects of trauma. Also, as someone owned by a black cat, the Cartwright storyline just destroyed me. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Such a beautifully written story and while I did love this book, it hit way too close to home when Selina became sick with cancer. I’d recommend the book to others who haven’t struggled with that diagnosis but would encourage breast cancer patients to reconsider as the last part of the book is a major trigger
