Wonderful book even with a very sad and tragic story. I know that as a parent I will never forget this story and remind my children over a d over to tell me when they are not happy to express it. Thank you for this book.

The Instagram feed of Madison Holleran paints a picture of a beautiful, happy nineteen-year-old. She looks like she has everything going for her - good grades, good friends, and a full-ride scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania to run track and field. So why did she jump to her death? This is a heartbreaking story of mental health, pressure, and a girl who was able to hide behind the little square photos in her Instagram feed. Her parents and friends recognized that there were problems with Maddy and they worked to help her feel better, but none of them realized how deep the pain ran and how bad things really were. This is a must read for all parents, coaches, athletic directors, and other school personnel that work closely with our children. There is a rise in suicide and we owe it to those we know and love to heed the warning signs. If you or someone you know is suffering, please dial or text 988.
I saw the segment split image on ESPNs sportscenter show and knew I had to read this story. It is really well written but incredibly sad. A must read for parents of student athletes. Devastating and raw and the author does an incredible job of honoring Maddy's memory and bringing attention to the sensitive topic of suicide. Simply put, a masterpiece.
I wanted to like it. I really did. The book is sad because a young girl thought her entire worth was in how good she was as an athlete and the second she wasn’t #1 she fell apart. The emphasis on sports and winning in youth is so toxic but the authors focus is on blaming social media. The book was a lot of rambling from the author on her opinions and feelings. You almost forget who the story is supposed to be about.
What could of been a great book and important lesson was greatly missed.

Exceptional. Heartbreaking. The author does an excellent job of making reader better understand what Maddy MIGHT have been feeling by interweaving her own struggles as a student-athlete with Maddy’s story. As the mother of a college student-athlete, this really opened my eyes and helped me to see the issues that my kid is currently facing. My heart ached/aches for Maddy’s family. This is an excellent read and I recommend it for anyone struggling with mental health issues, the uncertainties of high school/college, and family members of the same. This is a story that
will stay with me forever.

This was by far one of the most heartbreaking books I've read in a little while. With this age of digital everything - it was pretty interesting how much the author was able to gather of the person Maddy was as a result of going through her things. I really felt for Maddy reaching out for help and receiving nothing in response. I expected to want to pin her end on someone, but I just left the book feeling sad for anyone. The author's big message is to encourage others to REALLY listen when someone says they're not doing well - and for me it was: message received.
