Oh. My. God. My heart. I’ll be honest, I got this book on a whim because I knew it was queer and it was on sale in the kindle store. I am so glad. This book dove into race and identity in a way that is so simple to understand and almost just seems like, duh. I am a white person who obviously benefits everyday from white privilege. This book was a great example of how to educate myself without having to ask the people of color in my life to do the work for me. Everyone should read this book. There are romantic aspects of this book, but it is not the romance story I had expected.
I will say, there are a few plot points that just kind of.. disappear? But honestly the book is so good I don’t even care. Amazing, wonderful, will be reading again.

Even though this is set in 2003, the concerns and problems raised around Harlowe, the main character's idol who is a white feminist, feel very relevant to today's discussions about white feminisim and white centering. Juliet was such a warm character and I really enjoyed this.

I couldn't get the comparison of Harlowe and the how to/unclaimed books its a whole thing

Juliet is fascinating, and I love and am interested by just how autobiographical this is for the author.
The climax was more and worse than expected, to the point I needed to leave and go Rearrange my shelves

I absolutely loved this book!
Juliet goes from New York to Portland for a summer internship with a feminist writer whose book she fell in love with.  Newly out as a lesbian and ready to learn and be embraced, she finds out so many things about herself and others.  This book also has a particular focus on the toxicity of white feminism and the intersection of BIPOC/Queer/Feminist identities.

This book was so funny, sweet, and reflective. It's set in the early 2000's, so the same level of convenience for education on queer identities was not readily available as it is today. A lot of the plot was about how Juliet put in the time and effort to learn about herself and others without this convenience.  There was a great cast of supporting characters, and even though some were infuriating at times, I truly loved them all (as characters, not necessarily as people).

This book was wonderful and I definitely recommend it be added to your TBR!

Coming of age in the early 2000s: young woman from the Bronx goes to the West coast and learns about feminism, intersectionality, love, and sees white privilege and is able to face that
