This is an interesting and incredibly well-reasoned look at the History of Information Networks (as the title says). It begins by defining what information even is (essentially connections) and how networks helped humankind become the dominant species. He then shows how the development of different technologies like printing and radio over time have influenced the flow of information. He then outlines that AI is a completely new technology that is different from books and radio in the key way that it can make its own decisions. In the last chapters, he shows how the development of AI could shape our world in the future.
Like all books that I have read by this author up to now, it is fascinating, extremely well thought-out and riddled with memorable examples.

Generally a very interesting and informative read. The first 100 pages about explaining democracy and autocratic states through the flow of information was super interesting. The rest of the book , focusing on AI, was very well informed but didn't hold me as much.

Some was over tedious history but some was really insightful and thought provoking thinking about AI. Worth a (selective) re-read.
