This book is a love letter to gamers everywhere. The characters were complex and flawed, and it made them incredibly lovable and relatable. The story takes turns you don’t expect, but in the end, it is expected, isn’t it? The wild twists and turns of life we never expect but know are bound to surprise us? How people fall out of our lives and promptly back into them? How lovely. Highly recommend.

Sam and Sadie meet in an unconventional way at a children hospital while they are young. Sam has just been through a terrible accident and Sadie helps him come out of his shell by playing games together. They spend much of their formative years caring for each other, but never at the same time. This story spans much of their lives and covers their careers as video game designers. 

A realistic fiction, with part video game description (slight sci-fi feel). Would recommend to video game fans that enjoy a little bit of drama true to life. Sadie and Sam both go through various tragedies in their lives, sometimes together.

This was a great book, especially if you enjoy stories that follow your characters over a long span of time. Lots of character development. However, since I typically read sci fi and fantasy, I found the pace of the book to be a little slow. Otherwise, great!

I love a book about deep relationships that aren’t romantic and this one was perfect. I cared so deeply about these characters and their feelings for each other and now I’m left reflecting on my own relationships too. This will be on the top of my list of recommendations for a long time.

Would give this more than 5 stars if I could.

I would recommend it to anyone and everyone given the disclaimer that it made me cry more than possibly any book has ever, at least that I can remember. But it did so in such a beautiful way that I already want to reread it even though I just finished it yesterday. So strongly recommend, but be warned. More specifically, though, I would recommend this book to: 

• people who are tired of romances
• people who like games (especially video games)
• people who eat it up when a book is just possibly a little bit too artsy and pretentious
• people who like storytelling
• people who were maybe a little too into john green as a kid
• people who loved everything everywhere all at once (idk it’s a vibe thing)
• people in a quarter life crisis
• nerds, especially computer science folk
• former gifted kids

 
I loooove how it focuses on the complexities of friendship over any of the romantic relationships in the book. It's the perfect amount of artsy and human and relatable. This book is perfect to me.
