Having accidentally started this series towards the end I have been meaning to read them properly from the beginning for a long time. There is something very raw about this book and it delivers exactly what a dark crime thriller should. It was addictive, pacey and had the right balance between the details of the case and the personal lives of those investigating it which in this case intersected pretty heavily. The only downside for me was that I knew who the perpetrator was as soon as he was introduced but this didn’t spoil things too much as I didn’t figure out the why until it was explained at the end.

The reread begins with an absolute smoke show. As always I am gripped from page 1. Coming back to grant county with Sara and Jeffrey is like coming home after an extended holiday. So excited to be traumatised all over again
