9/10 - now this one, was as good as i thought it would be, but also it was low key soft porn, but it wasn’t obnoxious & over done & too pet namey for me, it was tasteful soft porn lmao, but i have been WAITING to read this one, but i decide to wait until wildfire was released so i can read them back to back like i love to do, &&& it was worth the wait, fantastic as ever, unfortunately, my new rom com threshold of perfection is yours truly, & this just wasn’t yours truly, so 9/10, almost perfection

also i’ve got some beef with hannah grace bc she named the hot hot main guy my literal brother’s name, we all know his name is nathan, but my mother’s maiden name is hawkins, like wtf hannah

I loved it but it was very heavy on the sex scenes…could have been a 5 star with more story line

“I’m a hockey player, study art, and I have two moms. You think I’ve never had to hit someone before?”

3.5 stars

Alright, as a bookworm who’s dating a hockey player, I had to read this one and see what the hype it all about. And… I liked it. I didn’t love it, but I enjoyed it.

Plot:
Anastasia is an aspiring Olympic pairs figure skater with an oh-so-strict schedule. Nathan is a school year away from joining the NHL. Both have a plan and are determined to see it through, but things start to get ugly when a chain of events leads to both teams having to share a rink. And when things seem like they couldn’t get any worse for Anastasia, her partner gets hurt, and she needs to train with Nate. But she doesn’t like hockey players. Or does she? *wink wink*

This was a fun and light read – a good break from epic fantasy and romantasy series. There was great spice, awesome characters, force proximity, a reverse sunshine vs. grumpy couple, and more. It definitely made me even more curious about the romance and sports romance genre. However, I feel like this book could have been a good 100 pages shorter. A lot of plot twists and repetitions were added to create unnecessary drama, and it felt like a lot was happening, and nothing at all at the same time. Anastasia giving Aaron chances over and over became very dull very quickly, but the author just couldn’t let it go. Urgh. Finally, I probably would have given this book and extra half-star if it wasn’t for the epilogue.
SpoilerI was very happy with the ending, and then Grace went and gave us the pregnancy and American dream trope. Belch.

Characters:
Hannah Grace writes good men! Nate was swooooooooony and kind and selfless and oh-so hot. And Henry, HENRY! I can’t wait for this book. JJ was fun too. Gosh, I wanted to out with these guys the whole time. The female characters, however, felt a little flat. Anastasia was inconsistent and stereotyped, but her communication skills was *chef’s kiss*. And Aaron.. wow… how can one hate a snobby figure skater more than an evil villain in a fantasy series? What a sorry excuse for a human being he was.

Writing:
The writing was ok, but inferior to what I usually read. Perhaps it goes with the genre? It didn’t “annoy” me, but I certainly wasn’t impressed by the prose. However, I thought that some dialogues between Anastasia and Nate were very refreshing and that the way they communicated their feelings was deep and mature. Love it! Authors often go with the cheap “miscommunication” trope, but this book was the complete opposite and I LOVE IT.

Audiobook Details:
5 stars for the narrating! I could have listened to Tim Paige aaaaaall day.
