The perfect sequel to this series! They are in love, they are fighting for their lives, they are running a "rebel" army, they are fleeing "the enemy." I loved every minute of it. The ending had me gasping at every new sentence. I was shook. I was just as in love with their romance as I was in the first book and now I am even more invested. Add in not one but multiple mysteries at the end, and I am completely hooked! I would give this a solid 3.5 simply because I did enjoy the first one more, but that is probably because I live for the suspense and the slow burn.. lol this was wonderful and I can't wait to find out more!
Book one was a intro into this world, this one explored that and then so much more. We get so much info and back story in this world. Things start tying together, and pieces of the puzzle start clicking into place. Obviously there's still loads we need answers to.
I did feel like the pace of this book was a bit slower than the first. There was a huge cliff-hanger which was so good. I can't wait to read the next book.

Enjoyed the first book. And second book was good too just seemed like a lot of filler and took me a while to get through because of losing interest. Overall a good read though.
medium-paced
Loved this book
I loved this book, but I feel like it could be trimmed down a lot. I got so bored after the first 150 pages because it could have ended at this book and now 500 pages in.

The positives of this book balanced out the negatives. I thoroughly enjoyed the deepening plot, but this book did feel a lot slower than the first. It felt similar to slogging through a miserable trek to see some beautiful natural wonder... and then walking back to the car. I enjoyed where the story took me, but I was not fond of the journey. lol
Similarly, I'm not terribly keen on all of the development of Layala and Thane's relationship in this installment. On the other hand, I was so excited to start seeing more of the supporting cast! Piper, especially. And the whole last quarter and all the new characters -- and what I can assume will be major players in the next book!! Scrumptious.
I'm hoping the third book manages to finish stronger than this one, but I'm committed enough to see it through now. A reluctant 4, even if I wanted this book to be a 5.
