I really enjoyed this one. I’ve been listening to these on audiobook and the narration is wonderful. Layala is really growing on me. Thane can eat a dick lol, he’s so damn stubborn ugh!!

Well THAT was unexpected

The ending really threw me off! I was NOT expecting that twist. It came out of left field for me.

Honestly, most of this book felt slow and I didn't feel invested in the story or the characters. There were also some really cheesy lines that took me out of the story a few times.

Let's talk about the audiobook. This one is a duet narration, meaning the male narrator says all of the male dialogue for the MMC and the female narrator narrates all of the FMC's lines. I love duet narration and I thought this one was done really well. The bordeaux's narrate Zodiac Academy so I was already familiar with them. They continue to do an exceptional job!

Thank you to Netgalley for the audiobook. This is my honest review.

"Maker, Layala, you're beautiful. And the way you say my name, that alone can make me come undone. "

Long Live the Elf Queen is the second instalment in the New Adult High Fantasy series, The Elf Queen. This one immediately follows the characters of Layala and Thane as they are separated by their enemy and must find each once again and find a way to stop the rise of the Black Mage...especially when their enemies say Layala the key to his release.

This was a fun read. You definitely get a lot more plot development this round and I think justice was done to both characters being able to see them separate and together. Layala gets a better chance to really find herself and her place in this world, as well as by the side of Thane. Thane continues to be all in his glory as he lays down definitively no matter what that Layala is his. I loved those intimate moments between them - I feel like a lot of my highlights are Thane doing or saying things that makes Layala fall even harder.

I will point out, and I likely did in the first one, that while the book has spice (this one a bit more than the first) I would say this spice is more Upper YA style. You know exactly what they are doing but it isn't too explicit for anyone wanting romance and sexual tension without it going too far.

"You're bewitching when you threaten me."

In terms of plot and world, we definitely get to explore more places, meet new and intriguing characters, and learn a lot more lore around the Black Mage and his powers. The last 15% throws out some HUGE twists and are capped off with a cliffhanger. I would say I felt some characters got a little left behind in the second half but overall I was pretty happy with it.

If you love epic worlds with elves, magic, action, and adventure this is definitely a series to pick up!

This ended so suddenly and I looked before I started and there’s only two books shown on Goodreads in the series so who even knows if there is a third one so all of this was for nothing.

This book was just as all over the place as the first and the worst part is I don't even care that much about the romance! There was just a lack of grace in combining the romance with the plot and sexy parts. Definitely a poor ACOTAR rewrite.
