I never say this—NEVER, but the second book in this series is better than the first!!!
I CANNOT get over how this book went and the twists and turns that it had. I don’t want to give spoilers, so I’ll just say this, the next book cannot come fast enough. Absolutely amazing!
I loved the development of the characters in this one and I cannot get over the twist at the end.

Holy smokes! This was epic! I only have one issue - I’m going to need the next book ASAP! I had high hopes after the first book, “Bow Before Elf Queen” and J.M. Kearl did not disappoint!
We return to Layala and Thane‘s epic world and hit the ground running. Instantly hit with action, adventure, tension, mystery, twists & turns and a swoon worthy continuation of their love story. My heart was racing the whole book! If you are looking for an action packed romantasy The Elf Queen series is definitely for you!
Thank you to NetGalley and House Valor Books Inc. for the gifted copy in exchange for my honest review.

This was an amazing follow up from the first book. It had some ACOTAR vibes similar to preparing for war like when they go to kill the Hybern King but I loved the different places they traveled and other creatures brought into the story. It really widened the scope of the world building and adventure! I'm rooting for Thane and Laya the whole time but eveyone else too really add to it. The dragon parts might be some of my favorite and it helped to tie in the mention of other worlds and Gods and Goddesses which makes it stand out. A good amount of spice and flirty banter and didn't feel over the top just showed how passionate they were. But holy cow I didn't see the ending coming! I kept feeling like I didn't have all the pieces just like the characters and I still don't think I do but I was so shocked by it and can't wait for the third book to see how things go with the Black mage.
Long live the Elf Queen lived up to the potential set by book one Bow Before the Elf Queen! In this book we got a deep look at Palenor, and the history. This helps shed light into Layala and Thanes past and what they need to do.
The twists the turns this was a fast paced book but really delivered on character development and growth! I need more of Piper in book three!
The ending, how can I wait until next year to get these answers.

This was not as good as the first book, but was still intriguing enough that I will pick up the third. There was not any character development, in fact I think some of the characters fell flat in this book compared to the vibrancy of their personalities in the first.
**SPOILER**
The cliffhanger in the last book really set up the second book to be amazing. Tenebris coming back was a big move and I think more could have been done with this. There were definitely some interesting moments, such as Thane's recovery and the fight to win the scepter. But I feel like I floated through this book, it felt like a lot of filler. I'm looking forward to the next book and hope it will be more intense.

I think I'm more interested in Piper and Fennan's relationship
DNFed because I didn't love the first book and it's too slow now, not entertaining
I really loved the first book so this second one took me by surprise. I was okay with it until the ending. The ending just felt so out of place to me. Also didn’t like the constant “she’s mine/touch her and die” vibes from MMC. Wish we could see the FMC not rely on him too much around others.
