absolutely gorgeous writing - truly poetic at times. loved reading it again for a friend (love u soph) and had sm fun annotating the prettiest of lines.

this book was beautifully written, it reads like poetry where ocean vuong chooses each and every word masterfully. everything is meaningful. it presents vietnam in comparison to america. a study of suffering in its most human form

The writing is very good, but this book is too much for me. I lost it when I got to the vignette with animal torture. Unfortunately, I didn't see any TW's about that (they all say animal death - it's worse than that).
