The mysterious Thief kingdom is a secret place in the land of Aadlior where magic roams freely and only few have the opportunity to visit it. It's ruled by the Thief King with the help of the Mousai, three powerful sorceresses, who happen to be sisters. The youngest of them is Larkyra, her magic expresses through her singing voice.

When it's discovered that Hayzar, the Duke of Lachlan, is using a forbidden drug from the Thief Kingdom and is oppressing his people, Larkyra is offered her first solo mission to stop the Duke. She has to pretend to be his future bride to infiltrate the Duke and his castle. Things get complicated, when Larkyra finds herself drawn to Darius Mekenna, the Duke's stepson and Lachlan's rightful heir. The longer Larkyra stays near Darius, the more suspicious she gets. It seems like he is up to his own agenda to help the people of Lachlan.

Song of the Forever Rains is written from Larkyra's and Darius' point of view.
Larkyra has a strong bond with her two older sisters, Arabessa and Niya, she loves them and her father deeply and is eager to prove herself to them. She often has a hard time to control her magic, since it's connected to her fears, but through the story she learns to how to calm it.
Darius has no family other than his stepfather left, and since he is a cruel man, Darius' life lacked of love and joy since his mother died when he was a child. Despite this, he cares deeply for Lachlan and its people and does everything in his power to help them.

I really liked the world of Aadlior especially the Thief Kingdom, which I found super intriguing and would have liked to learn more about, apart from the connection the three Mousai sisters have with it. I loved the relationship of the three sisters, who have such different personalities but such a strong bond.
The romance between Larkyra and Darius develops very slowly, nothing really happens until the last 20% of the book, but I loved how they got to know each other better. They are total opposites, Larkyra sarcastic and outgoing, Darius suspicious and more introverted.
What I didn't like was the pacing of the story. The first half was too slow for my liking and there could have been more explanation, especially about the magic system. I didn't really understand it and I'm not sure I like the singing magic of Larkyra. I also wish there was more investigation about the forbidden drug and I felt the ending was a bit rushed and underdeveloped.
Songs of the Forever Rains is a complete story, but there will be two more books following Larkyra's sisters. The next one is about Niya and the famous pirate Lord of the Thief Kingdom and I will definitely read it, hoping to get to know the Thief Kingdom better.

The uniqueness of this world was amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, the romance and the twists and turns. I would reread this in the future, and could turn this 4 stars into 5.

Objectively? 4 stars. Considering how much I love Darius and the sisters? 5 and patiently waiting for the sequel

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Such a good medieval, unique fantasy novel. Loved how the author portrayed the Bassett sisters as witty, strong, independent and powerful. As well as the contrasts between them. The developing relationship between the main male and female characters was also really good. I also liked how these two characters accepted their past and the horrible things they have endured or have thought. Overall an amazing book. Cannot wait to see what the second one is like

All in all, it was a great read that kept me entertained for a couple of days. The main and secondary characters were interesting and endearing, I enjoyed watching the main ones change and grow throughout their adventures, as well as their interactions with the secondary ones play out. The ending left a bit to be desired in my opinion, as some things are left unsaid or unanswered. Nevertheless, I'm quite excited to dive into the next book in the series!
