Not as exciting at the first two books. It took a while to get through it.

Great third installment in the series. I keep waiting to get bored by them, but the author does an amazing job of keeping the stories fresh, even with essentially the same cast of characters.

This book in the Found Things series was really, really good. Some issues from past books were resolved, Xanthe learns more about how to control being a Spinner but further issues arise. This book ended on a huge cliffhanger which I normally hate but this is such a good series I can't wait until the next book comes out.

This series continues to be ho-hum, and I'm not sure I'll continue reading. As noted in earlier reviews of this series, the portrayal of a person suffering from chronic pain is wildly skewed, which I find particularly difficult to dismiss. As a huge fan of time travel stories, which are usually laden with things like paradox and other theoretical issues, the veil of "magic" to cover everything feels lazy. Of course, I understand that this is not sci-fi, and I'm not expecting it to be. There are just a number of points I feel aren't explored at all in the book- I outlined several of these in my review of Secrets of the Chocolate House, and the problems persist here.

I wonder if in future installments of the story the main character (Xanthe) might refine her abilities to travel through time and we may have some of these issues, but at present the stories are entirely focused on character relationships, paying little mind to the details (albeit imaginary details) of time travel. That being said... the character relationships are predictable and flat. The characters themselves- even Xanthe- make every move in an obvious, linear way. (Which is pretty funny for a time traveler.) Even the "twist" at the end was foreseeable and an obvious jump to what will be the plot of the next book in the series.

That said, I'm a big fan of the Regency era, and enjoyed the setting for the time travel in this book. The details of the history, fashion, and lives led by the upper class at the time were presented very well. Also, I have a very firm vision in my head regarding Xanthe's shop, home, and village, and I personally would love to live there, so that kept me reading.

*a further note: I don't have patience for the hero stance of allowing evil to live. If there is a villain who's death would halt the suffering and death of others, the "hero" should kill it. When a protagonist, tasked with protecting others, gets squeamish about this, they are not doing their jobs, and lose my respect. This is why I prefer Dexter to Batman.

I think this is one of my favorites from the series so far. I am glad Xanthe is finally opening up about her being a spinner to those around her. She also seems to be much more comfortable in he role as a spinner which is seen not only in her overall abilities but in the confidence of her choices and her demeanor. I hope this continues into the next book in the series and she continues to become more sure of herself.

3.75 stars! I don’t think this one was as strong as the first two but it was still a fun and quick read. Plenty of time travel and this time to the regency era! I loved the addition of Liam to the time travel because it gave Xanthe a teammate on her adventure!
