I must say, shifter stories never really interested me, but then people convinced me to read Kim Dare's [b:Duck!|8178400|Duck!|Kim Dare|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1273661196s/8178400.jpg|13024937], which really shook me up. I'm still not that interested in shifter stories, but it certainly didn't put me off this book, which is the second of Kari Gregg's I've read. I'd give this story 4.5 stars if I could, since it is really good on the whole, and it's flaws - for me - are quite minor.

"I, Omega" is a bit like Duck!, in that in broad outline, it concerns a submissive man, Gabriel, whose world gets turned upside down by a dom who takes control of him like no man has. As in Duck! there's a bit of a secret aspect that the sub needs to discover about himself, but where in Kim Dare's book, the secret is obvious to the reader and the story is really about how the characters deal with it, in "I, Omega" it's less obvious and it's really about the sub's own self-discovery. This is one of the areas where the story is less than successful, although not by much. The dom and his pack know what Gabriel needs to understand, so it's difficult for them to talk about it enough for the reader to understand it too. I think we need a little more.

The story-telling is another teeny nit for me. It starts in the middle, and tells the beginning in bits of flashbacks or conversations. That's not necessarily wrong, but in this case it just didn't work for me. I had to think too much and it disrupted the flow of the story. It's just a guess, but I suspect this would be a stronger book if we had it start to finish.

The sex - and there's lots of it - is pretty hot, and the BDSM aspect is probably the best I've read for a while, especially in that limits and safe words are discussed, and even tested. You don't normally see this in BDSM books, where sadly, violence is often passed off as kink.

I don't even know where to start. I suppose my first mistake was that I didn't expect this to be PWP. Nothing happens in this book except lots of sex with knotting, BDSM, and large amounts of cum, and 2 "incidents" that made no fucking sense. Why the hell shifters were practicing formalized BDSM, I'll never know. That didn't seem to fit at all. And then there were two of my biggest pet peeves: the overuse of boy and endearments, the most cringe-worthy being pretty baby.

The two incidents were so contrived that they were completely nonsensical. First, Cal's nephew
Spoilerapproaches Gabriel and tells him Cal is mistreating him and will scare him away, then proceeds to mistreat him and scare the shit out of him. Then later when they go for a run in the woods, Jake mysteriously disappears, apparently having no idea that rival shifters are nearby even though his senses are better than Gabriel's, plus none of the entire pack that was sent to guard the perimeter came across these guys?? And why wouldn't Cal have concentrated more pack members around the area Jake and Gabriel would be running?

I'm going to be generous and give it an extra half star for managing to turn me on before proceeding to throw the metaphorical bucket of ice water over me with the terrible endearments.

A messy story full of contradictions that didn't make sense. The story had potential but never reached it full potential. The characters were flat and served a purpose rather that be a part of the story. Especially gabriel felt like a dense character who was nothing more than a submissive with an identity crisis

Non con bonded Vampire/Werewolf Master/slave.
Second read 5 stars - 2/2017 - I really "matured" as a reader the last 2 years.
First read 1 star - 11/2014 - I DNF too soon.

DNF this was a big no from me. Main character is brainwashed, microchipped and tattooed in like the first 20 pages. I’m all for taboo dark stories but I wasn’t feeling this, it was too non-con for me to take and the sex was too over the top and not at all sexy.

*fans self* Oh, Kari Gregg, you know exactly how to get in my pants.

I, Omega has a lot of similarities with [b:Tame a Wild Human|23591597|Tame a Wild Human|Kari Gregg|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1416458072s/23591597.jpg|43194186], which was equally mind-melting for me, with the exceptional difference of the MC in I, Omega consenting to nearly everything that happens to him (once misunderstandings are smoothed out) and becoming an actual romance (with an openly gay MC). You've got absolute domination of a skittish protagonist who grows into his submissive role and finds peace in his new life. The assimilation of the human into shifter culture requires sex and blood and completely bonding with the alpha. Oh and lots of discipline. Sexy, sexy discipline.

I loved how in tune Cal is to Gabriel, always taking care of his needs, going above and beyond. It made the dubious parts of the story more bearable. They even have a safe word, though Gabriel is so into everything Cal does that he only uses it once and it's to show that Cal will respect the safe word even if Gabriel rather not ever use it.

There's knotting and biting and blood drinking (¯\_(ツ)_/¯) and unequivocal surrender and everything I adore about Alpha/Omega pairings.

Perhaps my only annoyance is I would have loved to see the pack bonding once Gabriel accepts his position (and the bliss it would give him). But it's a small annoyance in the overall scheme of things, like a mega HEA on top of the HEA. I'm greedy like that.

I loved the story. It was intense and sexy and Cal was a perfect dom.
I wish there was more. Jake is definitely an interesting person and I was a little disappointed he had so abruptly vanished at the end of the book. Nevertheless - 5 stars!

Parts of this one worked for me. I liked that Gabriel understood himself and his needs well enough and that he wasn’t ashamed of being a submissive. The scenes between him and Cal were hot, even if some skated the edge of Dub-con ( this has never bothered me, but might bother others).

I would have liked to see how Gabriel’s life changed after the bonding took place. Yes he understood that he was Cal’s everything but he was also definite that he didn’t want to be a full time sub so I would have liked to see his life progressed after the bonding and the freedom that gave him.
