I’m coming to realize that Sumino’s style is to present you with an intriguing and unique plot, but the twists and turns leave you contemplating so much more. Sumino is great at gradually revealing new information.

Awgh this book!! It was an experience with many emotions - heartwarming, heartbreaking, lovely and cute, sad, stressful and almost every other emotion. We follow two high schoolers, Haruki who is socially reserved, awkward and keeps himself to himself who finds Sakura’s journal stating she is dying of pancreatic cancer. He is the only one who know outside of her family and so they start a friendship which turns out to be so necessary for both of them. They go on adventures and a lovely strong bond begins to blossom. There are some unexpected events but I won’t explain anymore as not to ruin anything. Important messages are portrayed, the characters are super lovable and emotive - you crave fulfilment and positivity to come their way. They are also just so cute and the art style pushed this further with lovely drawings really encapsulating the character’s expressions, thoughts and feelings.

I really loved this and was super close to tears at many points. The bittersweetness really shines through and tugs on your heartstrings from start to end. I read this is nearly one sitting as was so encapsulated by the story and characters. This was my first manga and I will certainly be reading more soon.

What a wonderful tearjerker. I don’t want to elaborate because frankly that might tell too much to other potential readers. Just read it when you’re in the mood for a romance-tearjerker. It’s an exemplary tale in that specific genre.
