This book relays some of the history and events of the civil rights movement in the US as experienced by John Lewis. The graphic novel format is a thoughtful and accessible form of an important story. I am looking forward to continuing with the next installment of this series.

Congressman John Lewis could’ve opted for a regular piece of nonfiction to detail his involvement in the Civil Rights Movement, but telling it in the form of a three-part graphic novel adds a new dimension of art, vividly painting a clear picture. Often, it’s what’s not shown that has the best effect.

This is an autobiographical comic of congressman John Lewis. The comic discusses John's childhood and how he joined the civil rights movement in intricate detail. I found this comic to be quite informative and enjoyable to read.

These graphic novels are really good. I don't normally read graphic novels. It is cool that the novels are in black and white. The story goes back and forth between the Civil Rights Movement and Obama's first inauguration. Definitely worth a read. It fits in with what's going on currently in our country.
