overcoming past baggage to embrace love
Thank you Naima Simone for writing Zora Nelson. She was so relatable, well intentioned and just needed a good dose of “you got this!” I don’t think I’ve read a size 16 sister before.
The blurb made me think this was light and fluffy but it has good depth to the characters. They weren’t just their looks but people trying to achieve their goals, exceed the expectations they feel that people have of them and they are good people. Great foundation of their wants and wishes before the sex scenes.
I loved Cyrus because he was hard working and driven, and he asked for help from Zora to have a better romantic life in addition to getting the partnership at work. They had heat but Cyrus was patient and waited for consent without pressuring her. It was a really good journey to self growth and evolution as people and as a romantic partner.
Very realistic and enjoyable. Well done Naima Simone. Well done.

I thought the book was OK. It wasn’t what I was expecting and I felt there wasn’t enough ‘oomph’ for me. The characters felt a little under-developed which was a bummer.
However, I enjoyed the storyline and think there is a lot of potential and I think if revision of the book was looked at it could be a fab book.
The chemistry was good and I found myself wanting a little more smut but I loved the romance side of it.
Thank you to Netgalley and Naima for allowing me this ARC.

I freaking loved this book. I think the premise is so cute. This book follows a character who owns a unique business (breaking up with people via a third party) and after she breaks up with a person for they recent client, she has no idea hat he will be the great love of her life. Just the best time, this book is.

Lots of good quotes and passages in the book. And Cyrus's character was interesting and complex. But I don’t understand the descriptions given by Zora of her twin brother—-it was just weird. In my opinion, slow start and anticlimactic ending.
The book was a slow start and I did find myself quite bored initially. Zora runs a break up company with her siblings and is hired by Cyrus’s girlfriend to break up with him. The storyline alone had great potential! Zora and Cyrus kept bumping into each other and instead of a nice slow burn it just felt awkward to read, I felt uncomfortable for them to be honest..Cyrus just seemed unlikeable and resembled an emotionless robot. Once they make a specific deal.. things FINALLY start looking up, there is a few juicy scenes but quite tame to what I usually read and very expected turn of events and a extremely quick and rushed ending. Quite disappointed really.
"Life is a f***. And it's your choice whether you lie down and take it up the a** or take control and make it the best god**** screw possible."
This book was STEAMY! I love an interracial romance. I think we can all agree the romance genre needs more POC authors as well as main characters. This book did not disappoint.
A business centered around dumping people - a little silly in theory, which is what made this book less-than-perfect in my eyes. It didn't seem entirely grounded in reality that this business would exist, and was a little hard to get past for me.
However, the chemistry between Zora and Cyrus was off the charts. I absolutely loved Cyrus's dominant nature. He was so hot and truly a man's man. I loved how he saw Zora - straight through her defenses, into who she really was. Cyrus wanted Zora on a visceral level - not just physically, but he truly wanted to know what was going on in her head and I loved how he protected her, even from her own mother.
Zora was an amazing character. She is beautiful, smart, badass, independent, and funny. Everything you can ask for in a heroine. She didn't let herself be steamrolled, which is all a woman can dream of in the face of adversity.
I would definitely re-read this book, and recommend it to a friend. It was sweet, poignant, romantic, and fun. Thank you to Naima Simone, Montlake, and Netgalley for allowing me this read in exchange for my honest review.

I liked this quite a bit - Zora and Cyrus had great chemistry and I thought they were so sweet together. It's also a strong start to a series which I always appreciate.

3.5 Stars just feels right for this one, but I'm not sure my justification will make sense.
I've read some phenomenal books by this author. My favorites will forever be the Sweetest Taboo series. And this one was good, but it was the first one that I didn't find myself wishing was longer. The writing in this one was also quite a bit more dense than I remember. I struggled a little bit since I tend to read with toddler sized distractions running around.
Still, where Heated didn't differ from the author's other works was the oh holy mama sexual tension that just might make the pages combust. Hell, I wanted to jump both Zora and Cyrus, the author makes them that sexually appealing.
I reserve the right to revist this one in the future because I simply refuse to believe it wasn't a 5 star. It has to be me.
