This story is very good. I cried a lot. It is sad and moving and beautiful and a study on human nature that shouldn't be missed. Love, love, loved it!

This was not what I expected but that is a good thing. I think listening to it on audio was great and even though I wasn't a fan of the narrator, I think it was a great way to "read" it!

I think fans of historical fiction will really enjoy this especially since this is another view of how WWII was were it wasn't involving the US or Germany which I think is really unique.

Susan was my favorite character but I did like Ada and Jamie. And OMG the mom was horrible! I'm so glad the ending happened the way it did.

Very rarely do I bother with star ratings anymore. I loved this book so much though! It drew me right in and I looked forward to my drive so I could listen to more. Thankful the second one was available on Libby so I could dive right in after I finished this today.

This one deserves ten stars! Incredible details - I loved the historical details, and how it told a completely different WWII story than I've read in other novels based in that time period. Ada is such a complex and wonderful protagonist to spend time with, and Jamie and Susan are compelling characters as well. Love the themes of perseverance and family!

This reminded me a lot of "Goodnight Mister Tom" by Michelle Magorian, which I think was better.
