This book is a classic for a reason, though it's different from the Radio drama most people are familiar with. Not just because of the setting (London and Southern England) but a focus on both the science of the time and how it deals with the condition of man.
The book is written in sections and it gets a bit off track as the POV switches to the main character's brother for a while. The reason for this makes sense, but could have been done better.
The scientific aspects were interesting, but certainly date the book.

I have a bad habit of judging old science fiction by today's standards, so I tried my best not to do that here. At first, I didn't think there was anything special about this book, but I can imagine how revolutionary I would have found it in 1898. It's well-written and I'm sure it was terrifying to read in a time when airplanes didn't exist, let alone space travel. I also found the whole 1938 radio incident very funny.
