somehow he is able to discuss and explain many of the most contentious topics in modern western society in a way that no reasonable person could object to. every page is as an "oh right, of course, that makes sense" moment.

Many relevant and critical arguments (and a couple of bad ones). Reads like a textbook though (i.e. about as engaging as watching paint dry).

An excellent, unbiased look at behaviors and thoughts of people around my age. All the concepts were very well explained and reasoned, and the problems presented also had very actionable solutions proposed.

I learned of the book after listening to Jonathan Haidt's interview on the podcast Armchair Expert. Their analysis on what is happening to society today specifically in colleges was fascinating. As I was read, I was able to see how this thinking has crept into our culture, our parenting, our education, and our politics. Now when I listen to the news or hear a political response to something, I can hear the cognitive distortions. Good read.
