I was not sure what to expect from House when I picked it up. I found myself thoroughly enjoying the novel from the start. I was happily surprised to see many similarities to horror movies from the 1970's yet with a twist. The ending of the novel was one to make you think.
Not the best story not the worst. To be honest I found it a tad predictable, now maybe this is because I listened to the audiobook, I dunno. I didn't find it to be scary but it wasn't the worst listen.
Four people have found themselves stranded on a dirt road in the backwoods of Alabama with the only shelter being a nearby inn. Upon arrival they start to notice there’s something off about the innkeepers. When they find themselves locked in at the mercy of a lone outside serial killer, they must decide to stick together to try and defeat him or give him what he wants.

‘One dead body.’

While trying to ride out the night, the four soon realize that they aren’t only running and hiding from the stranger outside... the innkeepers seem to be on their own murderous mission in a house where nothing makes sense.

Ok so this book had way too much going on. Haunted house, serial killers, ANOTHER serial killer. I just couldn’t keep up. It was messy and very fast paced. I felt as if I was reading a cheesy horror flick (and oh my god they made one.) Too many shallow characters and not a whole lot of explanation for anything. It reminded me of a Supernatural episode where the brothers were on a movie set and the actors summoned ghosts.
“If the ghosts are in hell how can they hear our chanting?”
“They must have super hearing!!!”
That kind of ridiculous logic over and over until the end.

A haunted house trope with a twist and characters you love to hate.. to love. Two couples stumble into a bed and breakfast in the middle of nowhere after having car trouble and the owners are not what you would expect for such a beautiful B&B. Things get even more intense when the couples find out about Mr. White.

This book was good, I liked the ending but it REALLY lost me for a good 40-50% of the book there.

It was great for reading really late at night. I even found myself wanting to read it again. Maybe not the greatest book, but I liked the feel. The movie was terrible, especially in comparison to the book.
Above-decent, dark, creepy-feeling, not terrifying, really, but good enough to read again.

At first this book was SO bad it was amazing. I laughed my way through things that I'm not entirely sure were meant to be funny. Then it got extremely confusing and religion came into play, and I just had to nope out.
It was like Deliverance meets Texas Chainsaw Massacre with a bit of Saw thrown in. A little hard to follow at times.
Torn between 3 and 4 stars. Loved it all except the ending...
This was my first "horror" book I read as a kid besides Goosebumps if you even count those. For my first real horror book I thought it was great!
As I grew up though and started reading true horror like Stephen King, I realized how actually not scary this book is. It was as a preteen but not as an adult.
Whether it's truly scary or not though, it's still a good story and I'd recommend it to people who are just starting to get into horror. If you're already into horror, I'd skip it. You're not going to be scared.
