a dark tale told by a narrator who is extremely knowledgable and snobby about food. As the tale unwinds you begin to sense that there is something not quite right with this man.

This book took me so so so so long to read, probably because of its absurd denseness and the ungrounded nature of its plot. As much as it took out of me to get through, I really did love it and completely enjoyed its unusual storytelling, humour, and fun twists and turns. Would recommend, if you feel like you can handle reading a single sentence that is 2 full pages long.

I couldn't get into it, and dropped it. The narrator is priggish, comically so, and we see who he is through blunders and confessions of snobbery. It was funny for a few chapters and got old fast for me.

Delightful fun. I’ll confess to a little skimming through some of the longer expositions about specific ingredients in the first half, but I also think the book wouldn’t work without all of it. Go in blind, knowing nothing, it’s great!

This is one of my very favorite books but I know that it plays to my own peculiarities. From the first sentence I was hooked.
