This book has been popping up everywhere with great reviews. Somehow this one didn't work for me. I skimmed the last half rather than giving up on it completely and I'm glad that I didn't waste my time reading every word. I disliked all of the characters (except for the little brother) and the tone of the novel was too stark and dismal for my taste. In short, I just didn't like the feeling this book gave me.

Also, the surprise twist was not very surprising. I spotted it very early on (which is another reason I didn't feel the need to keep reading). To be fair, I believe that the author wanted to draw the focus to the characters and the "underworld" of the gymnastics community rather than center on the plot. She succeeded at this. With a less than stellar plot, the lack of likable characters who experience personal growth (I feel that most of the characters actually digressed) ruined this book for me. The characterization was well done, I just didn't want to get to know any of the characters.

I also didn't particularly care for the choppy, segmented writing style.

DID NOT FINISH: 48%

accidentally listened to the last chapter. idk why it skipped there

Unfortunately this one isn't working for me. DNFing at 56%.

I'm really disappointed because after reading and enjoying The Fever and The End of Everything, I was very excited to start on her more recent and arguably better titles.
But for me, You Will Know Me lacks what the previous two had, and that was getting into the heads of her teen girls' characters. Anyone who is a Megan Abbott fan is one because of her skill at writing the characters of young girls. Unlike those two novels, this one is written from the perspective of a girl's mother, and I thought that took away that one quality of Abbott's writing that I really like.
As things rolled along, I found that I felt very little for the characters, I was disinterested in the plot, and ultimately that left me with no desire to continue.

So I'm pulling the pin. Too bad.

For a YA book, it definitely kept me guessing with its many motives and secrets. The lengths that so many people in the book would go to to further Devon's career were astounding; I guess I never thought much about how great an investment an elite gymnast is to so many people other than her family. I found it hard to empathize with Devon because she was a cold robot-- is that what it takes to compete at that level? I felt so sorry for the little brother who was basically ignored in furtherance of "Team Devon." I'm still not sure how I feel about this book... not sure who I would recommend this to other than a gymnast.

I would've liked to see each of the characters developed a little bit more, but the plot and the way megan abbott writes about women's sports will always be a hit for me

I just don't think these Gone Girl-esque thrillers are for me.

This was a very well-written and interesting book, and yet I can't say I connected to it or even was entertained by it. I thought I would like reading about competitive gymnastics but it just didn't pull me in.

I'm pretty sure it's me, not Abbott. I think a lot of people would enjoy this book.

I am confused by the title? Doesn’t match well imho. I enjoyed it though. I was pretty riveted throughout.

Gut geschrieben und irgendwie erinnert mich die Stimmung, die die Autorin erzeugt, an Tana French.

Lately I've been having a tough time finding suspense/mystery/thriller books that I enjoy, but this one sucked me right in - and even though I can't relate to it, the heavy focus of this novel on gymnastics didn't deter me. I'm actually pretty fascinated by books like this that examine the effects of the dark world of high-level youth sports. Toss in a murder mystery and I can't get enough. Recommended!
