Very quick to read and I'm really glad I did. Some great little tales, some quite moving. 'The Sick Rat and the Healthy Rat' and 'The Grieving Owl' were my favourites. Would try this author again.

I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as some of his other work.

More of Sedaris mocking the everydayness of people, but this time the peeps have taken on animal form & his dark humor has morphed into morality tales of a sort. This was interesting & creative, but a bit of a ramble-on as far as I was concerned. Not my fave, but worth a look if you’re a fan.

Cute but felt like it should actually be longer.

Wry, gruesome and occasionally graphic, this was a little more Sedaris than Sedaris. I must admit I couldn't hack the last story. I ended that beast myself.

On the mega-plus side, I often feel a little guilty listening to books but hearing Sedaris's voice through Elaine Stritch was fantastic. The wine has never gone so well with the chicken! (Big love to Sian Phillips on this one too.)

Well, this is quite unlike anything I've seen from Sedaris before, and I did not like it. The book is a collection of fables about anthropomorphized animals poking at some of the less desirable behaviors and attitudes of modern humans. While I thought he hit on some insightful points, the stories in general made me feel not just uncomfortable, but gross, so I stopped reading.

I prefer his nonfiction, but still helped with the hours in the car.

A very odd and somewhat violent set of short stories.
