I really enjoyed this laugh out loud book. Although it is obviously aimed at preteens I could relate to the characters at that awkward stage where your not a child but not quite a teen yet. Lottie is starting secondary school and her best friend has just moved to Australia so she has lots of emotional upheaval at a difficult time. The book deals with starting a new school, making new friends, getting your first bra, periods and relationships. It is very funny and Katie Kirby's distinctive illustrations are brilliant. The book reminds me of the Judy Blume books I used to read but with a very modern twist. My 12 year old son also found it really funny too and provided a great insight into all the things young girls go through during puberty and the similarities between the two experiences growing up.
Thank you for Netgalley for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

*I received a free ARC of this book, with thanks to the author, Puffin – Random House UK and NetGalley. The decision to review and my opinions are my own.*

Fabulous and funny, this fictional-tween diary is not to be missed for fans of Louise Rennison or (to go back a bit further) Judy Blume.

Embarrassing moments abound, as Lottie tackles the challenges of boobs and bullying, BO and boys, friendships and farts, periods and pubes, and all without her bestie and just her hamsters for advice and sympathy. On the way, she makes plenty of mistakes, learns some useful lessons, and amasses a series of nicknames that is as impressive as it is hilarious.

Any reader familiar with Katie Kirby’s Hurrah For Gin blog will already know how snarkily witty she is, and her style translates perfectly into a very believable 113/4 year old girl!

There are some great positive messages for kids tucked within the wildly entertaining antics of Lottie and her friends, and I enjoyed it as much as an adult as I’m sure I would have in childhood. Minishine is still a little too young for some of the topics here, as she is quite a young, innocent 8, but I will be keeping this for her enjoyment in a couple of years.

In the meantime, I am thrilled that is looks to be the first in a whole series of Lottie Brooks books and can’t wait to get hold of the next one… er, for Minishine, in the future, you know!

This book reminded me of the Georgia Nicholson series that I read as a teenager!

Its a light hearted read about teen drama and agnst when starting secondary school. I can't wait for March 2022 when the second in the series comes out.

I highly recommend for mothers and daughters.

Fantastic diary entry style novel for middle grade readers, especially those about to make that leap from the end of primary into the big bad world of secondary school.
Katie Kirby writes Lottie with heart, wit and great empathy for the plight of your average 11 3/4 old girl.
Devoured by my own 11 Yr old in an afternoon, and she fully intends on re-reading and sharing with her friends. High praise indeed.

My 12 year old self would have loved this book! It reminds me of the Georgia Nicholson books and that’s one of the reasons I like this book, it gave me the same vibe. It was hilarious, but it also covered many issues that pre-teens and teens have to deal with. A quick and easy read perfect for every age. Everyone van learn something from the life of Lottie Brooks.
