tiktok made me read it. puh, das buch war ehrlich kein meisterwerk, aber der slow-burn war WIRKLICH mal slow & die tension wars wert! story war mal etwas anderes, ich hab die ganze zeit nicht so richtig gewusst, wo es hingeht und der cliffhanger am ende war natürlich herb 😭

SPOILER

i wont lie, i was giggling and kicking my feet aber habe auch oft schlucken müssen bei manchen von kirills aktionen

🔫 military/bratva romance
🤪 he's obsessed
🔥 kind of a slow burn
🤭 she's masquerading as a man
😏 age gap (H28/h20)

I'm gonna be honest, I was a tiny bit bored in the first part. But it really picked up nicely. Especially the third act. I was obsessed!

This is kind of like Mulan meets mafia romance. Sasha joins the Russian army disguised as a man as a part of her plan to get revenge and find out who's behind the massacre of her family. (Yenno I'm also feeling Anastasia *vibes* with the whole family's dead-gotta stay hidden.) There she meets the ice cold and calculating Kirill Morozov who becomes her captain and may be a key somehow to uncovering reasons (and the who) behind family's death.

Now, did Sasha execute any part of her practically nonexistent plan to get info? 🤣🤣 I won't say exactly but I will say she achieved getting boned...a lot 🤣 good for her.

I think I have a love-hate relationship with Sasha in this book. I adored her tenacity and her compassion. But girl was not the brightest 🤣 I'm sorry. She's naive and impulsive but I guess it makes sense because of her background. I was facepalming and also laughing a lot so it's complicated. There's a time and place for compassion and goddammit she chose it every time and literally risked her and Kirill's life. Sometimes you gotta throw it out the window and prioritize you, girl.

Also I liked Sasha's delulu 🤣 She was in over her head with how good of a soldier/bodyguard she was and even getting punched in the face or shot didn't shatter that. Props, Sasha. She's so funny.

Let's also not get into how nobody realizes she's a woman. 🤣 except Kirill of course who says it's so obvious.

Kirill was love at first "Solnyshko" for me. He's cold and calculating. The man with the backup plan for his backup plan with all the success rate calculated. 🤪 He's certainly a different brand of psychotic and he's so hot. He really gets you with his intelligence.

I loved how his obsession grew over time and it wasn't like BAM out the gate. It got so bad, he realized he's feeling and had to stop it. Gasp! And his jealousy? It was so hilarious I couldn't stop cackling. Especially near the end. He was beefing with everyone Sasha's attention was on. And this man was also so hungry for her 😛😛 like hot potato dude. Let the woman's 😻 rest. But the sneaking around? 🤌 The people noticing the *sexual tension* between these "two men?" Bahaha perfect. I really can't wait til the cat is out of the bag.

So overall, this was pretty much entertaining. I certainly like the second part better than the first. It was really funny if anything. I have my theories for the next books. So onwards we go.

My first Rina Kent book and I like it!!

Everyone's talking about how naive and stupid the FMC is and I'm like "No shit?!" It's stated numerous times that she had a very sheltered upbringing. Also, her whole family was massarced (this is not a spoiler, we know this from the first pages). Of course she's naive and takes stupid choices!!! /endrant

I like Sasha and Kirill is one of my favourite MMC 🥹🥹

Starting the second book right now!!

Going in knowing that this was going to be a trilogy, I knew the first book was going to lay down the foundation. I wasn't sure what we were going to get, but I was excited to get back into Rina's mafia world.

It wasn't quite what I was expecting, the romance was fairly low to me and I couldn't quite connect with their relationship. But then again, it's still only the first book, so we still have plenty to go through and hopefully a deeper connection as we go along.

There's a lot of secrets being held in this one and I can't wait to unravel everything in the next couple of books. I'm definitely invested even though this didn't reach out to me like her previous books have.

Narrators: I think the major thing that got to me was the narration. Even though I've enjoyed Sebastián York in her previous books, it didn't quite match for me in this one. Not who I imagined for Kirill. And Brooke Daniels, it was okay for this one, but wasn't quite my first choice. I did like the duet style, this was actually my first listening to one this way.
