The writing was solid and all of the coming to terms with sexuality stuff was realistic with a cute romance. My only issue was pretty much everything they did in this book was go to parties and get drunk, which is personally my worst nightmare and I just didn’t really connect with it at all. But very much a me being weird problem.

I finished most of this book in one sitting. I couldn't put it down, and I didn't want to.

The story follows Jackson, an Indigenous Australian who has one year left of high school and is really figuring himself out. In particular, why he doesn't seem to want his girlfriend and why he is so intrigued by other guys.

I love that this book is primarily based in an Indigenous Australian community, going into smoke ceremonies, painting, police discrimination, etc. As an Australian who was taught the updated curriculum in school, I was fortunate to really learn about Indigenous history and most of the elements mentioned in this book, however many did not. This books gives a glimpse into some of the many traditions, while keeping a modern vibe.

Diversity challenge: indigenous mc (aboriginal/first australian).
This is such an important book! In some ways it reminded me of Aristotle and Dante, with the vibes, the coming to terms with sexuality, and the day-to-day experiences.

I really enjoyed this book. While some parts seemed quite simple in how it was portrayed, it did really well in showing the characters and their journey. Definitely a story worth reading and absolutely a perspective worth sharing. A great debut novel.
