A rather quick read, that I enjoyed maybe more because of the theme than the writing itself. It was easy to get through reading-wise, even though some of the themes are more gruesome. I do think that the writer has a great way of portraying  harshness through their writing, and even where I felt that the Swedish translation was lacking a bit I could see that it would be more impactful in English.

This one has been a mainstay on my TBR for years now and I'm so glad I finally got round to reading it. A very bleak yet humorous glance at institutional living where you can't help but feel sympathy for some truly terrible people. Gave me OITNB vibes and maybe that's one of the reasons I loved it so much.

I found it difficult to get into this book. The writing is choppy, it switches timeframes often, later it switches perspectives without notice, all of which serve to make it hard to follow. It’s for lack of a better word, chaotic. I felt for the characters because their stories are all stories of misfortune and loss. Although all of the women are prisoners who did heinous things, you can’t help but feel for them, because of the circumstances that led them to the bad deeds they committed. The ending made me sad — I hoped for a better outcome for the protagonist than the one she got.

I definitely got this book because I was a fan of OITNB. I think it gives you the environment and starkness and violence of prison but not the big dramatic storylines and characters you have come to expect from the show. It made me feel depressed reading it. Not every book is meant to be tidy and happy.

unfortunately I didn't really vibe with the writing style. especially the flashbacks were a bit of a drag to get through and i didn't care that much about most characters. The highlight was definitely the dynamics between the characters inside the prison. I was pleasantly surprised that the author also included the issues with trans people in the prison system (Conan <3)
