Jumped into this one without expectations! Absolutely loved it! I’m not sure whether I like the vampire-part, and some lines felt repetitive, that’s why it wasn’t a 5-star read.

Ultimately, I enjoyed the second half of the book more than the first half which just dragged on a bit. Also took me quite a while to warm up to the MMC because he felt like he was too soft for a vampire. I wanted someone in this world to live up to the ruthless vampires this world claimed to have in it but they were all faceless nameless bad guys for the FMC to kill. I want my vampires to be morally grey to black with actual blood drinking, not sipping on animal blood from goblets. I’m still burnt out from 2010 when Vampires couldn’t be what they are if they’re the hero of the story. The trials were fun enough and the FMC was a good character, nothing to complain about. I just wanted to enjoy it more than I did.

It's been a minute since I picked up a vampire story, so I was excited at the reviews I had seen for this series.
The story follows a strong female MC, Oraya, who was raised by the vampire king. In order for her to become as strong as her fathers, she must enter the Kenjari, the tournament hosted by the Goddess herself. The world building is clear with little to question about the hierarchy of the vampire rule. The story throughout this competition is intense. The ending of book one does in on a cliffhanger, so make sure you have book 2 ready! Book 2 continues after the competition, leading Oraya to find who she really is.
